Structural/PostingThe choice of structural materials used in foot orthoses will be determined by a number of factors. The patient’s pathology, weight, shoe style and lifestyle are all considered in this decision. In general, the orthotic device will fall into one of two broad categories: functional or accommodative. Functional orthotics tend to use thinner, firmer structural materials such as polypropylenes. The accommodative orthotic may be described as being either supportive or protective in nature. Less rigid base materials are used in these types of devices including EVAs and thermoplastics. |
