Rogers, Connecticut, January 12, 2010: Rogers Corporation (NYSE:ROG) a global technology leader in the development and manufacture of high performance engineered materials has announced it will be supplying its BISCO® Silicones for use in three new railcar interior projects across the globe.

New customers include ALSTOM Transport of France; Sound Transit in Seattle, Washington, and Reliance Rail’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) project with Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp) of New South Wales, Australia. All three projects involve railcar interior applications requiring superior performance criteria.

BISCO L3 (lower density, lower smoke and lower flame spread) silicone foams are being supplied to ALSTOM Transport, headquartered in La Rochelle, France, a major supplier of systems, equipment and services to the railway industry. Rogers’ BISCO L3 silicone foam was specifically designed, in conjunction with ALSTOM’s acoustic engineering team, for use as vibration mitigation pads in ALSTOM’s floating floor designs.

Rogers’ BISCO MF1® product is a seating material that was recently specified into all passenger seats in the Seattle Sound Transit refurbishment project, which will be completed by mid-2013. One of the reasons Sound Transit specified the MF1 foam was to lengthen the service life of the new seats to reduce the frequency of worn seat materials’ disposal. This establishes an environmental and sustainability benefit to the entire Puget Sound region as well as a cost benefit to the ridership constituents. In business just under ten years, Sound Transit is a 73-mile regional train system serving some 13 million riders. Rogers’ BISCO MF1 foam is a light-weight, flame retardant silicone product that can be easily fabricated into a wide range of cushioning and sealing applications where performance and long life are critical, such as mass transit seating cushions.

For the Sydney, Australia NSW Rolling Stock PPP Project, new trains provided by Reliance Rail include high-performance gaskets die-cut from BISCO foams and solid materials.

“These three wins represent over $3.5 million of revenue for Rogers and demonstrate that BISCO Silicones are the materials of choice when it comes to meeting the most demanding requirements for fabricating floating floor pads, passenger seats, and general gasket and sealing applications in mass transit systems worldwide,” said Robert Wachob, President and CEO of Rogers Corporation. “Our High Performance Foams Division continues to work closely with all of the major international railcar OEMs in support of their design activities.”
